HYDRAULIC ENGINEERING CONSTRUCTION

1 Concrete-Faced Rockfill Dams’ Plinth Construction
Essentially two types of plinth geometry have been used by the Commission namely: (1)with the apron made horizontal in a direction normal to the plinth line; (2)with the apron made horizontal in a direction normal to the dam axis. Following Cethana, plinths of the second type have been adopted to minimize excavation, especially in deep terrain. However, the gains thus achieved have not been without some compensating losses. Very awkward apron surfaces result, which do not facilitate a highly mechanized approach to the later operations of forming, concreting, drilling and grouting.In the Commission’s situation this has reduced their appeal to the point where reverting to the original design is being seriously considered.

I. Working Plan and Method for Main Works
1. General Working Plan
1) Plan for the Irrigation Tunnel
Whole-section excavation shall be adopted for the tunnel operation, open excavation, shotcrete and rock bolt shall be applied at the mouth of the irrigation tunnel before tunnel excavation. Air compressor and pneumatic rock drill shall be deployed for the excavation, smooth face blasting shall be applied and loader shall be used for the removal of spoil. For the horizontal tunnel with the length of 20 meters, excavation will be started from the intake and for the tilted section excavation will be started from the juncture with the diversion tunnel.
Lining concrete will be done with the JS500-type mixer, steel formwork and concrete pump.
Sequence for the operation will be as the following:

2) General Work Plan for the operation of Vertical Shaft
Formwork will mainly relay on steel formwork, transportation of material will use windlass and lifting truss, concrete mixing will be done by JS500-TYPE mixer and concrete shall be transported into tunnel by pump.
The sequence for the operation will be like below:
2. Work Plan for Steel Structures
All the steel structure will be manufactured in the workshop, and test assembling and antisepsis work will be done before being transported to the Site for installation. The tram road for gate shall be embedded by the two-phase concrete. Chain wheel, windlass and manual hoist will be used for the installation of gate.

The manufacture and installation of the embedded parts are as the below shown Fig.

II. Plan for Irrigation Tunnel
The irrigation tunnel is located at the middle section of the diversion tunnel, and the excavation work for the irrigation tunnel can only be started when the excavation of diversion tunnel is completed. When excavation work to the irrigation tunnel at the tilted section is under operation, other work at the inlet section of the diversion tunnel has to be stopped until the excavation work is completed, the period for suck stoppage will be around 50 days.
The Sequence for the Work is like below:

III. Special Technical and others
Method for rock excavation in the irrigation tunnel will be much the same as diversion tunnel, except for the tilted section of the tunnel. At this section, spoils will automatically drop to the diversion tunnel, from where loader and dump truck will be deployed to carry the spoils out of the tunnel.
The metal structures will be manufactured in China according to the design and will be assembled at Site. Electrical parts for volume control shall be imported from China also.
